Final Fantasy VII fans may be disappointed if they were looking forward to the live-action series project on kickstarter (Tomodom’s original article regarding the project can be found here). As of this morning, the kickstarter page has been taken down, replaced with a notation that the project is the subject of an intellectual property dispute and a link to a DMCA notice in which Square Enix states: “The project itself is in infringement of our copyrights and should be removed in its entirety from Kickstarter.”
The project’s team has released a statement:
“You will have noticed that the Square Enix legal team have taken an interest in our project. We’re in the process of opening up discussions with the team regarding the ongoing status of our project and hopefully the continuation of our Kickstarter campaign.”
Hopefully fans and kickstarter supporters will get some good news about the project soon.
