XBox One Digital Marketplace Rumors

Neogaffer CBOAT, widely believed to be a Microsoft insider (and whose information is usually later confirmed), has posted that plans for the Xbox One’s digital sales features, though still undergoing finalization, will likely include the ability to resell used digital games online. Translation here.

According to the post, Microsoft is collecting information, survey-style, to assist it in determining how the Xbox One’s digital market will work. Among the suggestions in the survey is a discussion of an online used game market that may incorporate some of the following:

  • You will have the ability to purchase and sell pre-owned digital video games.
  • You will have the ability to sell back/trade in your versions of digital games you have purchased.
  • You will have the ability to buy pre-owned digital versions of games through the online marketplace.
  • You will have a variety of prices and features available to purchase for pre-owned digital versions of games.

Whether any or all of these features ultimately wind up being part of the Xbox One, it’s encouraging that Microsoft is apparently considering them and taking feedback into consideration.

About Bethany Quinn

A Los Angeles native, Bethany spent most of her childhood stubbornly resisting the siren call of popularity and social acceptance after becoming addicted to Pac-Man one fateful summer afternoon in 198(cough). Not long thereafter, she lucked her way into (sibling-shared) ownership of her first console, an original NES, and immediately set her mind to defeating some of its notoriously difficult games, one cheat code at a time. Now a putative adult with a day job, Bethany spends her non-working, non-gaming, non-Tomodoming time trading internet memes with her husband, Corey, and making up ridiculous nicknames for their two dogs*, Cujo and Ethel. *Possibly too small to qualify as actual "dogs."
