Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare will be bypassing single-player campaigns and instead focusing on multiplayer-only game play, PopCap has confirmed.
A spin-off of PopCap’s popular series, Garden Warfare is a third-person shooter headed “exclusively first” to Xbox One, Xbox 360, and PC in Spring 2014.
Instead, the game will support both four player co-op and up to 24 players in a multiplayer competitive mode. Garden Warfare will be PopCap’s biggest production thus far and therefore the most expensive game upon release. Creative Director, Justin Wiebe notes that it will be “relatively inexpensive when compared to other games on the platform.”
Garden Warfare will debut on Xbox One for $39.99 as both a retail and downloadable title. The Xbox 360 and PC versions will be slightly more affordable, retailing for $29.99.
However, the Xbox One version will feature an exclusive Boss mode that allows you to control Dr. Zomboss or Crazy Dave. It’s unclear if additional content will be free or paid, but PopCap is confident in its development.
“We definitely want to build on the game once it’s launched,” said Wiebe. “We’re definitely taking a cue from Plants vs. Zombies 2. Using DLC and new content updates, we want to keep players engaged in the long haul.”
